Good preparation helps coatings penetrate evenly and perform as intended. Here is the order to follow. Not every stage applies to every job, and the cleaner you need depends on the condition of the wood.
The coating needs wood that is clean and dry: power washed if rough, sanded if smooth. If it is dirty, the right cleaner depends on what you are removing. Wood Wash, ASC and CSC are made for different cleaning jobs. If it is already clean, you can skip straight to sanding.
