What is LEED Certified?
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It was Developed in 1993 by the non-profit U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) it includes a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of green buildings, homes, and neighborhoods that aims to help building owners and operators be environmentally responsible and use resources efficiently.
The system was spearheaded by founding chairman Robert K. Watson of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). He brought together non-profit organizations, government agencies, architects, engineers, developers, builders, product manufacturers and other industry leaders.
From 1994 to 2017, LEED grew from one standard for new construction to a comprehensive system of interrelated standards covering aspects from the design and construction to the maintenance and operation of buildings.
How to get certified?
To be LEED certified a product must undergo thorough testing by a third party testing facility independent of the USGBC. Once your product meets the testing standards of the USGBC a product is officially certified.
CBR’s venture into acrylic coatings began when CBR owner Bill Willis began experimenting with concrete coatings. Having already developed a mastery of oil and water based wood coatings Bill and the lab partners at CBR developed Clarity to address the massive market of concrete coatings. It was during the test phase of this product that they realised that is was also a very effective wood coating. Thus BRODA Clarity Wood Stone was born.
How BRODA got certified?
BRODA Clarity WS was certified by Berkeley Analytical an independent third party laboratory specializing in the analysis of organic chemicals emitted by and contained in building products, finishes, and furniture and consumer products.
Berkeley Analytical is an approved and ISO/IEC 17025 accredited testing laboratory. ISO/IEC 17025 is the international standard by which a laboratory’s commitment to quality is evaluated.
The Berkeley Analytical team measured and evaluated the emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC ) from samples of Clarity Wood Stone. Using the exposure scenario of a private office, our acyclic coating tested in the low range of VOC standards.
What does it mean for you?
For architects, contractors and home owners using LEED certified Clarity WS allows you ease of mind knowing that your next project meets international standards of VOC emissions. At CBR Products we are committed developing products that meet the highest standards for a sustainable future for every living thing on this plant.
